:dateline: The candidature of Captain Amrinder Singh, a former Punjab Chief minister from the Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency was confirmed today. His name has been cleared by senior Congress leadership. He will be contesting the polls against�Arun Jaitley of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
A formal announcement is likely to be made soon. Capt. Amarinder Singh said that Party national president Sonia Gandhi conveyed the party’s decision to him, and he agreed.
Up until yesterday, Amarinder was undecided whether, or not, to fight from Amritsar.� He said however, that though he had not made up his mind to campaign for the party in the whole of Punjab, he would obey orders if the party directed him to contest.
Announcement of the candidature of Amarinder, has made the election path tougher for the candidate of the Saffron party to win.
