:dateline:The much hyped political rally of BJP prime minister candidate Narendra Modi in Jagroan failed to live up to expectations. Modi’s address at the Fateh rally started around 2 PM after many glitches. Modi appeared in a “kesri” (bright yellow) turban, and alleged that he has a special relation to Punjab, because he is Gujarati. Modi spoke about the historic ties between Punjab, and Gujarat, and explained how his Government rebuilt a historical gurdwara which was destroyed after the Bhuj earthquake.

Independent observers, and media agencies, labelled Modi’s remarks possibly being a way of countering allegations that he is “anti-Punjab,” and “anti-Sikh.” It should be remembered that Modi’s Government hasreceiveda lot of flak for disallowing Sikh farmers in Gujarat to purchase farming land.
Narendra Modi is currently the strongest contender in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, and should his right-wing Bharti Janta Party (BJP) win an overall majority, he will become the next Prime Minister of India. The BJP are a right wing party who stem from the extreme right wing Hindu Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) party. The longstanding senior leader of BJP, L K Advani has openly admitted in a book he wrote, that he had personally persuaded Indira Gandhi to attack the Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) in 1984.
Shiromoni Akali Dal (Badal) forged an alliance with BJP in the last assembly elections to form the current Panjab Government, but Prakash Badal has always been very keen for Sikhs to believe that it is the Congress party that discriminates against minorities, and that the BJP can indeed be trusted.
It should be noted that, it was in Gujrat, in 2012, that land, and property, owned by Sikhs was seized by Modis Government, and when Sikhs protested, they were told that the land belonged to the Government, and if Sikhs were not happy with the Governments decisions, then they should leave Gujrat. Previously in 2002, again under Modis rule, thousands of Muslims men, women and children were massacred, many burned alive.
