:dateline:Over the past several days, the usually quiet atmosphere of Anandpur Sahib has been overtaken with an environment of �bitterness created when some mischievous elements marched in the city’s main round about against Sant Bhindranwale and also burnt his effigies. However, all of this happened for only two to four minutes and they immediately left after that–but the fire they lit under Sikhs is still burning.
Although, the protest by Hindu terrorist organisations was swift, the police and civil administration have not yet pursued leads, as the action was illegal under Indian law. Since that time, the Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, Dam Dami� Taksal, Sikh Missionary College, SAD, Ladies �Sat Sang Sabha, chamber of commerce, Sukhmani Service Society, Bibi Bhani Service Society, Sikh Women ‘s Forum, Youth Wing Akali Dal, Sikh youth council, village councils and societies, and other important persons, all have continued putting emphasis that at least a lawsuit should be filed against those who try to distort the city ‘s environment.
So far nothing has been done by the police. According to information from reliable sources,� this is due to some political pressure. According to the sources, a campaign has been prepared that an Akali leader from Anandpur Sahib may run in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and internally he has communicated to the administration strictly that no case should be entered, since there is a fear of losing votes from the Hindu community.
Several Sikh leaders met with the Akali leader but all in vain. The� burning of effigies is considered to have been incited by a right-wing BJP leader, which the police have also not looked into.
City residents say that they can’t see anything worse than this happening on the holy land of the Khalsa. While previously, Akali leaders could ignore Sikh issues to gain votes, a large number of people are against SAD candidate in the Lok Sabha elections and it will not be surprising if an Akali candidate gets defeated due to burning effigies.
