Seva food bank opens doors in Malton

seva_food_bank_canadaMISSISSAUGA, Ontario, Canada—The Seva Food Bank is holding an Open House this Saturday at its new location on Slough St. in Malton.

It’s a chance for members of the community to tour the facility and learn about what services will be offered, and for clients to pre-register. Volunteers can learn how to get involved.

“We initially launched a food hamper program on Dec. 16 to meet the urgent food security needs of the Malton community” said Executive Director Daven Seebarran. “Simultaneously, we’ve been working to get the facility ready to operate as a fully functioning food bank.”

Seebarron said the Malton location will be able to provide seven to 10 days of food each month to families in need.

Seva Food Bank provides safe, nutritious and culturally-appropriate food to low-income families living in seven postal codes across Mississauga — operating from its two facilities on Wolfedale Rd and Slough St.

An initiative of Sikhs Serving Canada, and a registered charitable not-for-profit organization, its mission is to positively impact local communities by acting on the basic Sikh tenets of sarbat da bhalla (the well being of all) and seva (selfless service).
