:dateline:S. Iqbal Singh Bhatti, who has been on hunger strike since December 5, 2013 at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, remains in high spirits. While speaking with a Sikh24 correspondent, S. Bhatti stated that he has not received any kind of support from Sikh leadership in Punjab; although a few Sikhs have visited him on an individual level.
Bhai Iqbal Singh went on hunger strike to demand a fast track court hearing for 1984 Sikh Genocide cases. A number of government leaders involved in anti-Sikh pogroms remain free despite credible evidence of their involvement in Sikh massacres in Delhi and throughout India.
Bhai Iqbal Singh told Sikh24 that he has not approached any Sikh leaders or individuals to support him. It is the responsibility of the Sikh community to raise its voice against on-going oppression and discrimination, said S. Bhatti. He remains steadfast in his demands even though he is already at the 48th day of his campaign.
This is Bhai Iqbal Singh’s third hunger strike. His previous hunger strike, from May 8th to 30th, concludedafter Arvind Kejrewal (Aam Aadmi Party) expressed support and promised to work on issues affecting the Sikh community. Kejrewal and other leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party have continued to support the hunger strike of Bhai Bhatti.
Sikh24 will be publishing regular updates on Bhai Iqbal Singh Bhatti’s campaign.
