Measures Taken To Stop Pollution Around Sri Harmandir Sahib

:dateline:To stop the ill effects on Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib due to pollution, Punjab and Haryana High Court have taken action.

Responding this past week, the Punjab Government promised the High Court that around Sri Darbar Sahib, electric four wheelers should be encouraged and should be the main mode of transport for Sangat from Fuwhara Chowk to Darbar Sahib. District transport officers have already issued a notification that 15 years or older vehicles should be banned in the area inside the city from 8 AM to 8 PM. Besides this, the High Court was told that thought was also given to stopping heavy vehicles from entering into the old city.

All these promises were presented in front of the High Court Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul during the hearing on January 17th. The next hearing is set for May 23rd when the court has ordered the Punjab government to submit a status report.

A report was been submitted to Punjab and Haryana High Court by IIT, Delhi two months ago. According to that report , it is clearly stated that inside the city–especially around Darbar Sahib Galeara (Garden)–hotels, restaurants, and other buildings use generators and furnaces. Various vehicles also running in the city and burning fields are becoming the major causes of pollution.
