dal khalsa logo:dateline:In view of the internecine clash at Takht Sri Patna Sahib and subsequent suspension of Jathedar Giani Iqbal Singh, the Dal Khalsa said in an effort to avoid such shameful and regrettable incidents, the Sikh community must evolve a code of conduct for the exalted offices of heads of all five Takhts.

During a social function, the party head HS Dhami told Sikh24 and other selected media persons that the incident that occurred at Patna Sahib has portrayed the image of the Sikhs in poor light. He said time and again unsavoury situations arise because there were no set rules and procedures regarding the appointment, removal, working sphere and jurisdiction of heads of these temporal institutions. Dhami held thatthe SGPC has always shrugged off from this demand to keep the post of Jathedar under its tight control for vested interests. Dhami went on to the extent in saying that the incumbents use and misuse the authority vested in them, the political leadership maneuverings the religious heads as per the exigency of the situation.

He urged the present appointed Jathedar Gaini Gurbachan Singh to set the process in motion to build norms and rules for Jathedars post in association with executive committees governing and managing affairs of SGPC, DSGMC, Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib and Takht Sri Patna sahib. He said the ruckus created on the solemn occasion of Gurpurab at Patna Sahib was a reminder to the community to put their own house in order, in order to save its religious institutions from further decline.

He reminded that his group organized a series of seminars to discuss and deliberate on this sensitive issue in the past. Dhami said the Jathedars should be independent of all kinds of political and administrative pressures and manipulations. He suggested that the jathedars should also be independent of any pecuniary authority.

Commenting on the hue and cry being raised over the suspension of Patna Sahib jathedar Gaini Iqbal Singh, he blamed SGPC for setting a wrong precedent by sacking Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib in a humiliating manner not once but thrice in the recent past.
