UPCOMING EVENT: A chance to discuss policy and submit a report to a Government Minister in the UK

The aim of the event is to have the Sikh communities voice heard on all issues in parliament and within the sitting Government. A long term objective is to have regular meetings to discuss topics and put forward our views, concerns and realistic solutions. All views from this discussion will be written into a report and then sent to the relevant minister in Government for a response.

The issues and topics of concern that have been tabled so far are:

How can we strike the right balance between national security and civil liberties?
How effective are police powers to stop and search in preventing and detecting crime and anti-social behaviour?
Striking the balance between schools ability to decide their own uniform and Sikhs being able to wear the kara and dastar. And to discuss similar issues in the workplace.
Human rights for our families abroad (ie in India or when traveling through airports).
Political prisoners – here and abroad. Discuss the Brar case and why such individuals are still allowed in the UK

Full address for the Gurdwara where the discussion is to be held: Guru Nanak Gurdwara, Wakefield Road, Bradford, BD4 7DP

It promises to be good discussion where individuals can raise concerns and awareness on issues so that we can pre-empt any policies that affect our way of life, our identity and our morals as Sikhs.
