Indian Visa to Sikh Ontario Assembly Member Denied

Milpitas (California) – North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) strongly condemned the government of India for not granting Indian Visa to Ontario Assembly Sikh Member Jagmeet Singh. Releasing this statement Satnam Singh Chahal executive director of the Association said that this decision of the Indian Embassy had evoked the Indian Community in North America. Jagmeet Singh is not a politician of any kind of criminal record and he was not a threat to India. This is very unfortunate that the man whose forefathers sacrificed their lives in the freedom struggle of India had been refused a visa to visit India for a noble cause. Chahal said that one of Jagmeet Singh Uncle(brother of father) Mr Shivcharan Singh Dhaliwal sacrificed his life in Indo-Pak war in 1972 and his second uncle Gurdatar Singh retired as General from the Indian Army. Mr Jagmeet Singh is a grand grand son of Martyr Sewa Singh Theekriwal whose martyr day is being celebrated by government of India and Punjab government every year. This is not only a violation of human rights but is a punishment to those Sikhs who are raising their voices to punish those who were responsible for 1984 anti Sikh roits.Chahal said that he is leaving for India where he will raise the issue with the external affair Minister along with the other issues and concerns of NRI Community. Chahal urged the government of India to look into the matter and issue visa to Jagmeet Singh
