UPDATE 20:36 GMT: Sikh Organisation for Prisoner Welfare reports: There were about 7 Singh standing guard at the tent and one of the Singhs present identified one of the police officers as the DCP of Chandigarh. Our SOPW volunteer was also at Bhai Gurbaksh Singhs bedside as Bhai Sahib had requested this, and he tells us that the Police first arrested the Singh that IDd them and then forcefully removed Bhai Gurbaksh Singh 2 police officers grabbed his feet and 2 grabbed his arms. Witnesses say he was thrown into a waiting ambulance like a sack of potatoes and that there were another 300+ officers outside. All the Singh that were present put up a fierce struggle but were inevitably outnumbered.
We can confirm that Bhai Sahib has been taken to Phase 6 Civil Hospital in Chandigarh and that as soon as Bhai Sahib was so disgracefully removed, Bibi Manjit Kaur (from Bhai Fauja Singh Trust) took his place and has resumed the hungerstrike herself.
Sangat are gathering at Amb Sahib Gurdwara to plan the way forward.
UPDATE 19:51 GMT: Multiple sources are now reporting that 40-50 police officers in civilian clothes entered the gurdwara with a number of them being drunk. We have updated the article below.
:dateline: Multiple news outlets are reporting that an intense fight has taken place between Sikhs and police personnel in civilian dress this evening.
Sikh Siyasat has reported that their sources say that around midnight a large group of people arrived at Gurdwara Amb Sahib where Bhai Gurbaksh Singh was holding a fast until death since November 14, 2013 seeking the release of Sikh political prisoners who were not being released from Indian jails despite completing the terms of their sentences.
According to news sources, there were 40-50 people in civilian dress, with some who were visibly drunk. The scuffle between this group–most likely an elite police unit–and Sikhs started when some Sikhs staying with Bhai Gurbaksh Singh recognized some members of the group and disclosed that they were police personnel.
The scuffle soon turned into an intense fight between the two sides but Sikhs were outnumbered by the police agents as most of the sangat from the march have returned home. Two of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh’s entourage were beaten up and had their dastars (turbans) removed by the police.
Sikh Siyasat source said that the police had arrested Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa. It is expected that after registering his formal arrest the police will hospitalize him and he may be subjected to forced feeding in the wake of his continuing hunger strike for the last 22 days.
our sources in the indian intelligence community have told us that Bhai Gurbakash Sikh Khalsa is been subjected to swere torture and beating by Indian torture agents who had specially flown from new Delhi
may death and misery swallow all these thugs in goi/punjab police and badal/sgpc puppets
Gurusahib ji says to have mercy even on our worst enemy so I wish them all a swift painless death so that they will not be able to commit further atrocites on on people. Even better than this I wish these police officers realize their crimes and fall in their own eyes that is the only way they can get forgiveness and the most pain without us ever having to do anything.
