:dateline:Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is said to have boycotted the Commonwealth summit in Sri Lanka due to the torture of the Tamil people in Sri Lanka and is instead sending Indias Foreign Minister to take part in the summit.
As per reports by various organizations, Manmohan Singh made this decision after facing pressure from various Tamil organizations based in India.
The decision to boycott the Commonwealth summit due to ongoing oppression is a good decision taken by the Indian Prime Minister however the move has been labeled as hypocritical by many here.
While the Indian Government is taking a stand against oppression of people in another country, it has continued to torture and refuse human rights to its own citizens.
The Indian Government has continued to shield instigators of human rights abuses in India. For years, senior Government leaders such as a Jagdish Tytler, Sajjan Kumar, Narendra Modi and many others have continued to roam freely in India even though significant evidence exists that proves their involvement in instigating Genocide against minority communities in India.
The Tamils, like the Sikhs and other minorities, have continued to face oppression in India.
One should ask Mr PM about the abuses in India against every minority… especially his own – the Sikhs.
