:dateline:Football Courtney Meppen-Walter, imprisoned for killing two in a high-speed crash has equated his prison sentence to a football injury.
The former Manchester City and England under-18 player was handed a 16-month sentence for causing the deaths of a brother and sister by careless driving, September last year. Kulwant Singh, 31, and his sister Ravel Kaur, 37, who were travelling in a red Nissan Micra, were killed when Meppen-Walters 25,000 Mercedes hit their vehicle.
The perpetrator had been to a bar with friends and was on his way home. His friends were travelling in a Volkswagon Golf, and the two cars were jostling to get in front of the other, swapping lanes at high speeds.
When the collision with the Nissan Micra occurred, Meppen-Walters Mercedes was at nearly twice the speed limit. Only five months earlier, the footballer had been caught speeding.

However, in a letter (above) written in April while serving his sentence, Courtney Meppen-Walter shows a complete lack of remorse for his offence, regarding his sentence as a minor. He adds that he had lost weight and was considering taking up a modeling career once released from prison.
The letter read, Yo, its a minor being in here, you know just like having a 4-month injury for me. Only 3 months left for me now, nice that!
The 19-year-old was released earlier this month having served only half of his original sentence. Prison officers had mistakenly released him in July, only four months into his sentence, however he was back in jail within 24 hours.
Relatives of the victims feel they have been failed by the justice system.
Brother of the victims, Gawa Singh, said: The sentence that Courtney Meppen-Walter has served is nothing compared to the loss that our family have suffered.
It is not justice as we understand it. Two members of our family have died. It has torn our family apart.
