:dateline:North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) expressed grief and condolence on the death of two community members Mr Balbir Singh and his wife Kamal Kaur.
Releasing this statement NAPA executive Director Satnam Singh Chahal disclosed that as per the information available, the Sikh couple was walking with their dog in Menlo Park city of California and were struck and killed Thursday night by a car driven by a suspected drunken driver.
[The victims] were walking east in the bike lane of Chilco Street near Constitution Avenue just before 7 p.m. when they were struck from behind, police said. According to police sources, after hitting the pair, the vehicle continued over the center divide, clipped a car traveling in the other direction and came to rest against a tree. The four people in the second car were unharmed.
Chahal added that the State Department of Motor Vehicle records show that Reitzell, [the driver of the vehicle] was convicted of drunken driving in November 2012 in connection with an incident two months before. She was on probation and her driver’s license was valid, the DMV said. Chahal added that Balbir Singh worked as a senior materials specialist at AngioScore Inc., a medical device company in Fremont, according to his employer. Kaur worked at a Walgreens, sources close to the family said.
