As per a medical report by the PGI in 2o11, alcohol abuse is leading to a rise in liver diseases.  The PGI finding expressed concern over the increasing number of liver diseases in the state of Punjab.

Prof. Yogesh Chawla, head of hepatology PGI, had said in 2011 that most patients at his clinic come from Punjab.  These patients’ cases are “either as alcoholic hepatitis, cirrhosis or liver cancer all of which have a devastating course which leads to complications like blood vomiting, coma, abdominal distension, and swelling of body and ultimately may require a liver transplant.” (TNN, April, 2011)

The entire office of SGPC in Sri Amritsar was said to be in grief over the passing away of Soni.  Sikh24 has received unverified information which may be disclosed in the coming days over the reasons behind Makkar’s son’s passing.
