:dateline:Senior High Court Advocate, Sardar H.S. Phoolka has expressed concern over security arrangement of witnesses against Sajjan Kumar. In response to a Delhi High Court direction issued to provide appropriate security to the witnesses, HS Phoolka has alleged that so far no security arrangements have been provided to the three key witnesses against Sajjan Kumar. In addition, the witnesses are being harassed by the police as they are often visiting these witnesses at their houses to inquire about the case against Kumar.

Sajjan Kumar is a senior Congress party leader who is responsible for directing mobs to attack Sikhs after the execution of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for her crimes against humanity. Kumar is being tried for having organized the Sikh pogroms in Delhi nearly 30 years ago.

In a statement, HS Phoolka said, These witnesses belong to [a] very poor strata of society. Out of them, 7 widows work as part time maid servants and wash utensils in the houses of people and one witness is a driver. These people get scared when they are called to police station. There is absolutely no reason for the police to call them to the police station.

HS Phoolka has alleged that the witnesses are in a constant threat as the local police may be under the influence of Sajjan Kumar. Phoolka has requested the High Court to intervene immediately to help ensure the witnesses are safe as otherwise due to increasing pressure from the police, they may be forced to not testify against Kumar.
