:dateline:Ludhiana based Charanjit Singh has been declared tankhaiya, guilty of religious misconduct. Charanjit Singh had tried to transport four saroops of Guru Granth Sahib in suitcases to the United States against Sikh practices. Charanjit Singh was asked to recite Gurbani for one week and to clean dishes in the langar.
Transporation of Guru Granth Sahib is against accepted norms as Guru Granth Sahib should be given prestigious and respectful treatment at all times. Sikhs consider saroops of Guru Granth Sahib as the living embodiments of the Gurus. The Akal Takhat Sahib had passed an edict barring Sikhs from transporting Guru Granth Sahib saroops in suitcases.
Although Charanjit Singh came under the radar of Akal Takhat Sahib, many such cases of misconduct go unnoticed and people in large continue to defy the reverence of Guru Granth Sahib by transporting the scripture in suitcases or in hand bags in airplanes. Such transportation methods are not suitable for physical form of Gurbani as it requires putting Guru Granth Sahib under security scanners and in flights where alcoholic beverages are served.
SGPC Member and associate of Shiromani Akali Dal (B), Navtej S. Kauni has also been reprimanded by the Akal Takhat Sahib for attending functions of the Sirsa based Sacha Sauda cult. Kauni has been declared guilty of violating a hukamnama passed in 2007 that bars all Sikhs from attending any Sacha Sauda programs. Kauni has been directed to undergo an 18-day religious punishment.
Navtej Kauni has been seen at Sacha Sauda programs multiple times. The Akal Takhat Sahib was informed that the said SAD member had taken part in a naam charcha program of Sacha Sauda on May 16 in which he requested the dera followers to back SAD nominees in upcoming elections. Kauni is said to have also taken part in Sacha Sauda congregations in 2011 as well.

Kauni has been asked to wash dirty dishes and clean the shoes of Sikh pilgrims for 18 days. In addition, he has been asked to seek forgiveness by reading Gurbani. The decision was announced at the recently held meeting of Singh Sahibs at Sri Akal Takhat Sahib on September 16. Kauni has been asked to re-appear at Sri Akal Takhat Sahib after his 18 day punishment.
It should be noted that this is the second time Kauni has been punished by Sri Akal Takhat Sahib. Members of Panthik organizations have appealed to Sri Akal Takhat Sahib to provide more rigorous punishment to repeating offenders.
The only way to stop this is for the SGPC to wake up and realise that Sikhs all accross the globe need Saroops, so then why don’t they make proper arrangements for to transport with the proper maryada for those who are in need of the saroops to foregin countries? On the one hand they are saying that only SGPC can print the Saroop (only in India) and they on the other hand don’t make the saroops available in foreign countries so the everyday people are left with no choice but this way.
The editor of this site should take up the issue with them on thios as they don’t want to listen to everyday Sikhs like me.
