:dateline:Azhar Quraishi, member of the NSUI (Student wing of the Congress Party) has apologized for a recent tweet regarding the Sikhs. Azhar posted the following attracting a controversy on Twitter: Killings of Sikhs in 1984 was need of the hour.
The Congress student wing leader later retracted his Tweet and posted [sic] hereby once again apologise for my tweets regarding Sikhs. I have the highest repsect for every countrymen. Now plz stop abusing atleast.
It should be noted that Rahul Gandhi is one of the leading members of the NSUI. Gandhi has rallied extensively in Punjab to gather the support of Sikhs for the notorious Congress party. Gandhi, being a senior leader of the Congress, should be held accountable for abuses hurled by other party members.
Quraishi has apologized but the Congress party has kept quiet over the role of its leaders in the November 1984 massacre of the Sikhs. It has shielded the likes of Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar and interfered in investigations in attempts to save these leaders from the gallows. In November 1984, innocent Sikhs, including women and children, were butchered and raped mercilessly in the streets of New Delhi. According to unverified estimates, over 10,000 Sikhs were killed within days.
Sikh organisations seeking action againstAzhar should take a note that his real name isAzhar Quraishi, not I. M. Azhar as has been circulated by other media outlets.
