Delhi Gurdwara Committee Holds Teacher Training Workshops

NEW DELHI—A valedictory function to mark the culmination of In-sevice Teachers’ Training Workshops was held at Mata Sundri College auditorium by the Governing Body of Guru Harkrishan Public Schools Society working under the aegis of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.

The session started with the keynote address by the President DSGMC, S. Manjit Singh GK wherein he emphasized the need to upgrade skill competencies of the staff at Guru Harkrishan Sahib Public Schools.  GK said it was important to revive the past glory of these Schools.

Eminent academics, namely Mr.Rajesh Aggarwal, Dr.Ajit Singh, Mrs. Alka Kalra, Prof. Handoo, Prof. Anjum Sibia and the CBSE teacher training team on CCE were engaged to conduct a series of workshops since May 18, 2013 to empower teachers with the latest pedagogical trends. The President proposed to continue holding orientation workshops throughout the session as an integral part of the academic initiatives of DSGMC and that trainers have been identified for the same from among our own teaching fraternity.

While emphasis is being paid to empower the teachers of various Sikh schools, it is also important to ensure students are also taught about Sikh religion and principles.

While DSGMC’s concerns in regards to teacher training are laudable, real empowerment is in fostering the teachers to adopt a Sikh way of life and hire more trained Gursikh teachers.  As can be seen in the pictures,Guru Harkrishan Sahib Public Schools lack Gursikh teachers.
