Sikh Delegation Meets French Minister to Discuss Turban Ban Issue

9533_French_SikhsPARIS, France—Members of the ‘Sikhs De France’ organisation met with Minister Manuel Valls of the France Socialist Party in relation to the Sikh turban.  The meeting was held at Place Beauvau.  The delegation of Sikhs put forward issues facing the Sikh community in France and an open discussion was held on the ban of turbans in schools.

As per Bhai Ranjit Singh, the minister welcomed the Sikh delegation and spent time listening to their problems.  He acknowledged the problems faced by the Sikh community after the religious symbols ban of 2004.  He told the Sikhs that the matter is being addressed by the French Government and the President himself is looking into it.

It was discussed that with continued discussions with Government officials, one day Sikhs would have the freedom to wear their religious articles in Government places.

Sikhs De France told Sikh24 that this was a historical meeting since it was the for the first time that French Home Minister Manuel Valls received the French Sikh Delegation. The Sikh delegation included Bhai Chain Singh, Bhai Dalvinder Singh Ghummar, Bhai Raghbir Singh Kuhar, Bhai Premjit Singh Sohal, Bhai Sukhdev Singh Kasechahal.
