Injured Pakistani Inmate Critical; Supreme Court Rules out Repatriation

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The condition of Pakistani inmate Sanaullah Haq is stated critical by the doctors and he is surviving on ventilator support in the ICU ward of PGI Chandigarh.  Sanaullah Haq got into a conflict with another prisoner in Jammu Jail who attacked him causing serious injuried.

The attack came shortly after Sarabjeet Singh was brutally beaten in Pakistan.  Vinod Kumar, the attacker is a former Indian Army Officer also serving life term.

Supreme Court has refused his repatriation to Pakistan as his jail term has not been completed.  A bench headed by Justice R M Lodha while dening requests of his relatives to send him back to Pakistan said that being a “life convict… the question of his repatriation does not arise.”

The team of doctors headed by Yogesh Chawla has stated that due to the uncontrolled blood pressure, Haq’s condition is highly unstable.  A report of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) suggests that Haq has developed renal failure with no urine output.  He is also said to be in deep coma.

Haq was visited by a team of delegates from Pakistan who inquired about his health.  Deputy Commissioner Chandigarh was also present on the scene and briefed them about Haq’s security.
