US Sikh Organizations Join Efforts to Save Prof. Bhullar

NEW YORK—After immense show of support for Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar internationally, Sikh organizations across United States have also resolved to help save Prof. Bhullar from the gallows.  These developments come just in time after Sikhs in England and Canada have continued campaigning for Prof. Bhullar this past week.

Various Sikh organizations wrote letters to the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, U.S. Department of State, and U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom to request their involvement to stop the hanging of Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar. The letters were jointly signed by different Sikh organizations, including Ensaaf, Jakara Movement, Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund (SALDEF), Sikh Coalition, Sikh Research Institute, United Sikhs, and Voices For Freedom.

US Sikh organizations are also planning a protest outside the Indian Embassy on Thursday, April 18, starting at 12:00 PM.  Protests will be held simultaneously in San Francisco and New York at the same time.  In California, the protest is expected to draw crowds from as far as Sacramento, Yuba City and Fresno while Sikh Sangat from tri-state is expected to take part in New York event in large numbers.

Details of the protest in San Francisco are available at this link: https://www.facebook.com/events/271374419665201/

New York protest details are available here: https://www.facebook.com/events/237769843031958/

Last year, worldwide protests for Bhai Rajoana drew attendees in unexpected large numbers.  The show of support probably surprised not only the Indian consulates but also the organizers.
