Scores of Vancouver Sikhs Gather in Support of Prof. Bhullar Outside Indian Consulate

:dateline:Hundreds of Sikhs from all over the lower mainland gathered at the Indian Consulate on 325 Howe Street in Vancouver, BC this Saturday, April 13th to protest the unjust impending death sentence of Professor Davinderpal Singh Bhullar. Prof. Bhullar’s appeal for clemency against the death sentence had been rejected by the Indian courts this past week. Following the example of Sikhs in the UK who had formed support groups and protested in London and Birmingham since Friday night, the BC Sikh Youth called for local Sikhs to unite and raise a voice for Professor Davinderpal Singh.

Support came from all ages of the community including mothers with their children and infants, high school and college students, and elderly members of the community who are grandparents and great grandparents. Protesters came prepared for rain although it didn’t rain until the protest had finished. Sikh youth and elder community members, including representatives from various Gurdwara Sahibs, took turns speaking in support of Prof. Bhullar and against the Indian Government’s decision and the system as a whole.

During the protest at least one person was seen taking pictures of the crowd from inside the Indian Consulate.
