Portrait of Bhai Jaspal Singh (Gurdaspur) to be Installed at Central Sikh Museum

Shaheed Bhai Jaspal Singh (18) of Gurdaspur was shot dead by Punjab Police

:dateline:SGPC has decided to install a portrait of Shaheed Bhai Jaspal Singh (Sidhwan, Gurdaspur) at the Central Sikh Museum located at the Harmandir Sahib complex. Bhai Jaspal Singh of Sidhwan (Gurdaspur), age 18, was shot dead by Punjab Police during a peaceful protest to oppose the hanging of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana. The shooting is said to have taken place after pressure from Shiv Sena terrorists.

While making the announcement, SGPC also declared that a gate would be installed in Amritsar Sahib in memory of Bhai Jaspal Singh.

In addition, a portrait of Sardarni Bibi Niranjan Kaur, wife of Sant Kartar Singh Khalsa Bhindrawale, Dhadi Bhai Balwant Singh Premi, Diwan Todar Mal, who had purchased land for the funeral of the younger Sahibzade, would also be installed at the museum.

Continued Injustice

Installation of Bhai Jaspal Singhs portrait at the Central Sikh Museum is a positive step, however the SGPC has done nothing to provide justice to the family of the young Shaheed. After the funeral of Bhai Jaspal Singh, SGPC had granted Rs. 5 lakh to his family, however financial support is not enough to suppress the grief of having lost their only son. No step has been taken by the Punjab Government to bring the killers to justice.
