Op/Ed – Delhi Gurdwara Clash Brought Shame for Sikhs

:dateline:The shameful and regrettable incident in Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib has brought shame to the Sikhs all over the World. The haughty President of the Gurudwara Committee has disgraced the teachings of the Gurus. If one respectable elected member of the Delhi Committee met such shabby treatment and gets his Turban thrown and is given a grievous head injury, then we shudder to think what treatment an ordinary devotee will get at the hands of such leaders. This reminds us of earlier days before the Gurudwara Movement when the ‘Mahants’ who were in charge of the Gurudwaras, acting on the behest of then British Rulers, had the ordinary Sikhs burnt alive within the Gurudwara premises.

Even if an un-invited elected member of the Gurudwara Committee or even a devotee or any other person, if he enters the Room where Executive Committee Meeting was being held, he could have been asked politely to the leave the room and if he insisted the President could have adjourned the meeting. But to order the employees of the DSGMC who have been recruited as Task Force to beat them and even when the respected member left the Committee Room, he was chased in the Parking Lot and attacked with 3 ft Kirpans and Lathies and was given a grave injury on the Head. No Sikh or any person will accept such inhumane behavior.

The background of all this happening is the delay in the election to the DSGMC. Which the Delhi Government and the Central Government are delaying for last 1 years. The direct responsibility of this avoidable incident falls on the Delhi Government and its Chief Minister and being a Sikh, the Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh will also have to bear the responsibility.

The Sikh Forum and the Sikhs of Delhi forcefully condemn this regrettable incident. We appeal to the Delhi and Central Government that they should honor the directions of the honorable Supreme Court which has directed that the election should be held before 12/31/2012. Delhi Govt. should announce the election schedule immediately and the government should avoid playing with the sentiments of the Sikh Community.

  1. its all about money and that is why all greedy bastards want to be elected in the committee to get enough money. Gurudwara sahibs are getting more than enough money through their devotees for langar and other services and most of this part going in the pockets of these greedy commitee members, that is why they are ready to beat up anybody, they are not real sikhs, their turban, beard and hairs is only for show off. shame on them. people should stop giving money to gurudwara sahib and just give contents for the langar if they want to. then it could be in control. Same Darbar Sahib Amritsar is going through same situation, people are not getting rooms for a night unless they have approach to the commitee members or unless they give some money to the members who have responsibilities to serve rooms to the devotees, they are not their for seva, they are only greedy people now and only looking for money, definitely not a true sikh, as sikhism never teach these things.
