Hasan Abdal in Pakistan Given Holy City Status After Gurdwara Panja Sahib

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan—A delegation of Indian lawyers, who visited Pakistan, today said the neighboring country has decided to declare the town of Hasan Abdal, near Rawalpindi, as a “holy city” since it houses the Gurdwara of Punja Sahib.

The 106-member delegation, led by Adish C Aggarwala, President of International Council of Jurists and All India Bar Association, was given this assurance by Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik.

In a statement, Aggarwala said the Interior Minister handed over a letter to him this morning in Islamabad addressed to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Badal inviting him and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal to visit Pakistan to join the official announcement function.

Earlier, the group of the jurists under the banner of International Council of Jurists had met the Pakistani Interior Minister to submit a petition in this regard.

Punja Sahib is believed to house a rock having the hand print of Guru Nanak, founder of Sikh religion, and is a popular pilgrimage spot for Sikhs across the world.
