Bhai Hawara and 4 others Acquitted From 2005 Delhi Cinema Blast Case

—Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara of Babbar Khalsa International has been acquitted from charges regarding twin bomb blasts that shook the city of New Delhi in May 2005. Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara along with 7 others were charged for their alleged involvement in the blasts. Since being charged, Bhai Hawara denounced the blasts and proclaimed innocence in the case. As per statements of Bhai Hawara, the Babbar Khalsa has always been against any kind of plots which would harm the civilians.

As per the reports of the Sikh Organization for Prisoner Welfare, a court hearing took place yesterday in which Bhai Hawara was acquitted from these charges. Bhai Hawara should now be transferred back to the Chandigarh based Burail Jail or the High Security Nabha Jail. Four others also named in the chargesheet would have been released, however their lawyers failed to show up for the court hearing.

Others who have been acquitted in the case are: Jaganath Yadev, Bhai Jaspal Singh, Vikas Sagal and Bhai Balwinder Singh.

The Delhi blasts were seen as a black mark on the face of Sikh Nation since the blasts claimed a civilian life and left many injured. This was perceived in many Sikh circles as a plot to malign the Sikh community. Bhai Hawara had once declared that if he was to come close to Parkash Badal, he would not take a moment to punish the culprit, however he could not take the life of an innocent. Now with acquittal of Hawara, both him and the entire Sikh community will take sigh of relief.

In May 2005, two bomb blasts took place at showing of the controversial film – “Jo Bole So Nihal”. The movie had disturbed the sentiments of the Sikh Community. Now that the prime accused have been acquitted, the question remains – if not the Babbar Khalsa, then who? Were the blasts planned by some other organization, possibly to malign the name of the Sikh Community?
