Khalsa Centre BC Prepares for First Year of Summer Camps

Vancouver—Last Summer, the Satnam Education Society of British Columbia, which operates Khalsa Schools in Surrey and Vancouver, purchased a property in Mission, BC for use as a Summer campsite for Sikh youth.  This year, at least 7 unique camps will be taking place at the Khalsa Centre in July and August, educating hundreds of Sikh youth.  Khalsa Centre is an excellent facility nestled in the beautiful forests of British Columbia.

Satnam Education Society purchased the 160 acre property in July of 2011. It has 11 buildings, including lodging with 150 bedrooms (accommodating 300 people), a 200 person dining hall, an auditorium and a Gurdwara.  Khalsa Centre is located approximately an hour from Surrey and approximately half an hour from Abbotsford, the two largest centres of Sikhs in British Columbia.

The camps this Summer include: Khalsa Centre Gatka Camp (ages 10+) from July 1-6, Khalsa Centre Pathfinders Camp from July 15-20 (ages 9-11), Khalsa Centre / Kaurs United Junior Kaurs Camp (ages 10-14) from July 26-30, Sukh Sagar Gurdwara Sahib Sevadars retreat from August 1-5, Khalsa Centre Leaders Camp (ages 12-16) from August 5-10, West Coast Sikh Youth Alliance camp from August 18-24 and finally Khalsa Camp BC from August 26-31.  You can learn more about Khalsa Centre and its upcoming programs at www.khalsacentre.ca.

Khalsa Centre is a multi-use facility for the Sikh panth.  Due to its rural setting, there will be a Sri Akhand Paath Sahib taking place there from June 8 to 10 where the entire Sikh community of British Columbia is invited to do respectful sanskar of gutkas, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Saroops, potheeyaan, and other religious items that may have aged or are in a state of decline.
