26th Anniversary of Khalistan’s Declaration of Independence

VANCOUVER, BC—Sikhs around the world commemorated the 26th anniversary of Khalistan’s Declaration of Independence on April 29th this year. The declaration was made in 1986 after the Sikh Nation decided it was the only solution to resist the ongoing exploitation and looting of Punjab’s resources, the denial and deconstruction of the Sikh identity and the Indian state’s genocidal campaign to wipe out the Sikh Nation.

This sentiment was manifested in the resolutions passed by the Sarbat Khalsa on January 26, 1986, when the congregation of over 500,000 Sikhs unanimously declared that the Sikh Nation would struggle to remove the chains of slavery from their necks. It was further reiterated in the Declaration of Independence which would end the brahmanical Indian State’s attempts to annihilate and assimilate the Sikh Nation once and for all.

Canadian Sikh Coalition spokesperson, Moninder S. Bual, urged Sikhs to celebrate the historic day and reignite the struggle for freedom.

“The 26th anniversary of Khalistan’s Declaration of Independence is an occasion that Sikhs and freedom loving people across Canada and the world should use to reflect on the struggles of oppressed nations around the globe, seek inspiration from their glorious years of resistance and gather the courage to continue down the arduous path to liberation.”
