—Only a day after their swearing in ceremony, the Akali-BJP combine has spread shock in the Sikh community after the former Vigilance Bureau Chief, Sumedh Saini was promoted to the position of Director General of Police.
Sumedh Saini is a notorious police officer, often remembered in the same breath as JF Ribeiro and KP Gill—previous DGPs well known for gross human rights violations against Punjabis during the Sikh [freedom movement] in Punjab. In July 2008, the Central Bureau of Investigation filed a criminal case against Saini for “abduction with intent to kill” in the case of two family members of Professor Davinderpal Singh Bhullar. At the behest of the Badal administration however, the Supreme Court dismissed the case in late 2011 after the state government filed an appeal on Saini’s behalf.
In response to the news, Canadian Sikh Coalition spokesperson, Moninder S. Bual, expressed opposition to the appointment stating that Saini’s appointment, coupled with the declaration to hang a political prisoner, Balwant Singh Rajoana, on March 31, showcases the Akali-BJP government’s willingness to maintain and carry on the Indian state’s agenda of genocide against the Sikh people and the suppression of their right to self-determination.
“The appointment of Sumedh Saini to such a high administrative post within the police force despite the serious allegations of kidnapping, torture and extrajudicial execution leveled against him, illustrates the hollowness of the Indian judicial system and reaffirms the Sikh Nation’s understanding that the attainment of justice within the current setup in the state of India is impossible.”
He went on to question Giani Gurbachan Singh, [appointed] Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht, saying the resounding silence emanating from him in regards to crucial Sikh issues speaks volumes about what kind of leadership the Sikh nation can expect from him in the future.
It is really painful to hear about all this and to see the current condition of punjab where the leaders are misusing their powers against the innocent Sikhs. Badal sarkar and the leaders of Akal takhat sahib are all minions of the Hindu BJP party and they all follow the orders of RSS and Shiv sena. They have kept the expiration date of punjab as 2025. and looking at the increase in injustice agains the Sikhs in punjab their aim seems impending.
Sikhs need to wake up and unite against all this. The main drawback is that the Hindu media does not show the real news and always try to project the Sikhs as terrorists and favour the other side. this has to stop and for this we need media that will tell the people of punjab the true story.
