549th Birthday Celebrations: SGPC to Hold Sikh Convention at Dera Baba Nanak

DERA BABA NANAK—The SGPC president S. Gobind Singh Longowal has announced to hold a Sikh Convention at Dera Baba Nanak on the eve of the 549th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji this year. Beside it, he has announced to hold a World Sikh Convention at Sultanpur Lodhi next year on the eve of the 550th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Sharing the development with media, the SGPC president S. Gobind Singh Longowal said that the India-wide Sikh seminaries, Sikh organizations and Sikh intellectuals will be invited in the Sikh convention to be held at Dera Baba Nanak this year. “District level meetings for the preparation of this convention will be begun in September this year” he added.

Longowal further said that during the World Sikh convention to be held at Sultanpur Lodhi next year, worldwide Sikhs will be invited to share their thoughts and ideas to tackle the challenges emerging in front of the Sikh community. “These conventions will be totally religious with no political influence” he clarified.     

Gurdwara Dera Baba Nanak is situated in the city Dera Baba Nanak of Gurdaspur District in Punjab, India. It’s approximately a kilometer apart from the Indo-Pakistan border and on the east financial institution of River Ravi. The town of Kartarpur (Ravi), which is now positioned in Pakistan, falls in its west. As its name implies, this shrine is hooked up with Guru Nanak Sahib, the founding father of Sikhism. Guru Sahib used to enchant the name of the Almighty Lord by way of the properly called “Ajita Randhawa da khooh” after his first udasi in 1506 at the level located within the Gurdwara Sahib and the history reveals that Guru Ji also had a dialogue with Ajita Randhawa.
