NEW DELHI—On being surrounded by the opposition on July 20 about the rising mob lynching incidents across India, the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh took the cover of the 1984 Sikh genocide by terming it as the biggest example of mob lynching in India. “The biggest incident of the mob-lynching happened during 1984,” the Home Minister said, referring to the 1984 Sikh genocide that took place in the aftermath of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s assassination on October 31, 1984.
Claiming of being aware of the pain of victim Sikh families, Rajnath Singh said that they have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for delivering justice to the victim families. However, he couldn’t shed light on the failure of his government in bringing the culprits to justice despite the formation of SIT.
It is pertinent to note here that the key culprits of the 1984 Sikh genocide are at large even after 34 years of this barbaric carnage. The deprival of justice to the victims of the 1984 Sikh genocide is a darkest blot on the Indian judiciary. Scores of victims and eyewitnesses of this carnage passed away during the proceedings of genocide cases in Indian courts and the rest are also in the end phase of their lives.
Parties standing in opposition to Congress have always played politics on this issue to corner the perpetrator Congress party by securing the Sikh vote bank.
Recently, several confessional videos of Jagdish Tytler had gone viral, but still the Indian government has not taken any solid step to book him and punish for his sins.
