Pilgrimage to Sri Hemkunt Sahib Starts with Unprecedented Fervour

DEHRADUN, Uttarakhand—Gates of the hilly Sikh shrine Sri Hemkunt Sahib were today opened amid presence of hundreds of devotees from all around the world. Notably, the first ‘jatha’ for paying obeisance at the opening of Sri Hemkunt Sahib had begun pilgrimage on May 22 from Rishikesh.

Sharing the development with Sikh24, the vice-president of Sri Hemkunt Sahib Management Trust S. Narinderjit Singh Bindra informed that the sacred corpus of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji was installed inside Gurdwara Sri Hemkunt Sahib at 10 am in the morning. “Following installation, the ‘Path’ of Sri Sukhmani Sahib was recited by the devotees and the Raagi Jatha delighted the Sikh devotees with melodious Kirtan till 12:30 pm” he added. He further informed that the sacred ‘Hukamnama’ was read at 12:40 pm following ‘Ardas’ at 12:30 pm.   

“At present, about 8000 devotees are moving towards Gurdwara Sri Gobind Dham from Gurdwara Sri Gobind Ghat to have glimpse of Sri Hemkunt Sahib tomorrow” he said.  

Situated at altitude of 15,197 feet, Sri Hemkunt Sahib is a Sikh shrine in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India. It is devoted to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji (1666–1708), the tenth Sikh master, and finds mention in Dasam Granth, a work dictated by Guru Sahib himself. With its setting of a glacial lake surrounded by seven mountain peaks, each adorned by a Nishan Sahib on its cliff.

  1. This book came into existence in late nineteenth century Guru Gobind Singh ji passed on in 1708 .A request to Sikhs please be aware of these falsehoods. Where did he dictate this work and to whom ? Guru Gobing Singh ji gave us the final version of Ad Guru Granth Sahib ji sighned of on it and ordered all Sikhs to follow it and nothing else.
