AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—A large religious procession in commemoration of ‘Sirhind Fateh Diwas’ will be taken out from Gurdwara Chapparchiri to Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib on May 12. SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal, Chief of various Nihang Singh Jathebandis, prominent SGPC members and other eminent Sikh personalities will be present on the inauguration of this religious procession.

Sharing the development with Sikh24, SGPC’s additional secretary Diljeet Singh Bedi informed that the SGPC is organizing programs commemorated to ‘Sirhind Fateh Diwas’ from May 12 to May 14. He added that on the conclusion of religious procession at Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib at 4 pm, gatka and kabaddi competitions will be held there.

Bedi further informed that Sri Akhand Path Sahib in commemoration of ‘Sirhind Fateh Diwas’ will be laid on May 12 at Sri Fatehgarh Sahib. “Special Dhadi Diwans will be organized on May 14 from 9 am to 12 pm after culmination of Sri Akhand Path Sahib” he added.

Sirhand Fateh Diwas commemorates Baba Banda Singh Bahadur’s victory over Wazir Khan, who had martyred the two younger Sahibzadas (sons) of Guru Gobind Singh Ji at Fatehgarh Sahib. Led by a handful of Sikh forces, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur defeated the mighty Sirhand forces and established rule of Khalsa over the area, before he liberated rest of the Punjab.
