Sikh Youth Organize Protest Against AkaliS for Giving Nod to ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Hundreds of Sikh activists belonging to Sikh Youth of Punjab (SYP), Sikh Youth Federation Bhindranwala and Jatha Sirlath Khalsa today took out a march in the holy city Amritsar Sahib against Akali leadership for forcing the SGPC members to okay the controversial movie ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’. The march started from Bhandari bridge and concluded at supreme Sikh throne Sri Amritsar Sahib where the protesters submitted a memorandum seeking suspension of SGPC members who gave nod to ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’.

All the protesters were carrying placards accusing the Badal clan for forcing sub-committee members to okay controversial movie ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’.

Protesting leaders including Bhai Balwant Singh Gopala, Bhai Ranjit Singh Damdami Taksal, Bhai Paramjit Singh Mand, Bhai Paramjit Singh Akali etc. said that the Badal family played against interests of Sikh community in getting this movie okayed from SGPC’s sub-committee. Recalling the incident of exonerating Sirsa cult chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim by the Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, they said that the same Badal family had earlier played foul in 2015.

Taking on the SGPC’s sub-committee members responsible for giving nod to ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’, they said that these weak SGPC members have made entire Sikh community feel ashamed by taking anti-Sikhism decisions at various occasions. “So, the Sikh community couldn’t tolerate them on responsible posts in our august body” they said in a memorandum addressed to SGPC president S. Gobind Singh Longowal.

The protesting Sikh bodies have also suggested the SGPC president S. Gobind Singh Longowal to print Sikh history & literature in multiple languages and send it to Information & Broadcast Ministry as well as to the Censor Board. Ban on representing the great Sikh masters in animated form has been also sought from the SGPC president S. Gobind Singh Longowal.
