NEW YORK—Activists of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) on April 13 staged a peaceful demonstration inside United Nation’s conference room against the Indian government’s atrocities on minorities and scheduled castes residing in India. The Sikh activists staged this protest by wearing black turbans and black ribbons while displaying posters on the eve of BR Ambedkar’s birth anniversary celebrations in United Nation.
Sikh24 has learnt that the Sikh protesters stood up to stage protest as soon as the India’s permanent representative Syed Akbaruddin started his speech inside United Nation’s conference room. Although, the Indian officials sought action against the Sikh protesters but the UN authorities didn’t find anything against rules about the Sikh protesters as all of them were carrying valid entry passes.
Speaking to Sikh24, Youth Akali Dal (Amritsar) head in United States S. Amandeep Singh informed that they exposed the hypocritical approach of saffron Indian government about celebrating Dr. BR Ambedkar’s birth anniversary while his idols were being demolished in India. He added that the saffron Indian government has crossed all limits in committing atrocities on the minorities residing in India. “We didn’t utter even a single word instead just held a silent and peaceful demonstration with posters exposing Indian government’s reality” he said.
He further said that the holiest Sikh shrine Sri Harmandir Sahib was demolished and thousands of Sikhs were killed in June-1984 and later a genocide of Sikhs was committed in November. 1984 but no action has been taken against the key perpetrators during the last 34 years.
