SGPC honors Wrestler Navjot Kaur and Cricketer Arshdeep Singh for their achievements

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Sikh wrestler Navjot Kaur and Sikh cricketer Arshdeep Singh were today honored for their special achievements by the SGPC at its headquarter Teja Singh Samundari Hall situated in Sri Harmandir Sahib complex. Wrestler Navjot Kaur was handed over a cheque of Rupees 251,00 and cricketer Arshdeep Singh was given a cheque of Rupees 125,000 by the SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal amid presence of other senior SGPC office bearers.

It is noteworthy here that wrestler Navjot Kaur had bagged gold medal in Asian Wrestling Championship while cricketer Arshdeep Singh had depicted fantastic performance in the under-19 Cricket World Cup. 

Interacting with on this occasion, the SGPC President Gobind Singh Longowal said that the executive committee had taken decision to honor these players to encourage other Sikh players to make special achievements in sports. He added that the SGPC will keep on honoring Sikh players in future also for their special achievements.

Wrestler Navjot Kaur and cricketer Arshdeep Singh said on this occasion that they were feeling much better after getting honored by the apex Sikh body. “We have been honored at other places several times but the honor given by SGPC has really made us feel blessed,” they added.

Earlier, Navjot Kaur was honored in a special honorary program with cash reward of Rupees five lakhs by the Punjab government on March 8. Beside it, the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh also offered her to join Punjab police as a Deputy Superintendent of Police on this occasion.

Notably, Navjot Kaur had defeated Japan’s Miya Imai in a final bout of the women’s 65 kg freestyle category by a big difference of 9-1. It is pertinent to note here that 28 years old Navjot Kaur is presently working as a senior clerk in Indian Railway.
