BREAKING: SGPC rolls back clearance to movie ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Observing sharp wrath among Sikh masses about the controversial movie ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee has rolled back its clearance to the movie. All the letters issued by the SGPC officials endorsing screening of the movie have been also annulled by the SGPC.

Speaking exclusively with Sikh24, SGPC spokesperson Diljeet Singh Bedi has informed that the SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal has taken the move keeping in view the sentiments of the Sikh community. He has admitted that a large number of common Sikhs have registered their protest to SGPC after watching the promo of movie ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ which was aired on several channels.

“The SGPC won’t move forth about the release of movie ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ without the consent of Sikh masses,” he added.

Notably, this movie was earlier set to be released in 2015 but was delayed amid sharp protests by the Sikh masses as it was termed controversial for depicting Guru Nanak Dev ji in human form.

  1. You don’t seem to know history of last 40 years Do you know who killed more Sikhs in just three days, than all the killings done by anyone in last fifty years do you know who were the bullies in schools in Punjab during 1950’s 1960;s ( I lived thru them). I grant you documentaries etc are good format to spread the word and it can be done without showing any human persons impersonating as any of the Guru’s in Movies.

    • We do not need humans to impersonate our GURU’S in any movies, we could use computer-generated imagery as technology has advanced. I Am not talking about bullies at PUNJAB SCHOOLS, but talking about children who have been born aboard who have been singled out because they are wearing turbans.

  2. Excellent view from Rajinder Singh Narang – Sikhs are now looking easy way out to watch films and believe in that instead of reading bani and following the hukam of our Guru Ji. Guru Nanak’s sikhi should be spread by acting on what we are tort by Guru Ji not watching movies as stated above they always have fiction. The public has not watched it but the Sikhs who has much more knowledge of Sikhi that poor us has and if they state the film is to be banned that it has to be. Also portraying of a human figure as Guru Ji when is that acceptable???

    • Sikh’s know knowledge of Sikhism, but what about the none Sikhs. How do we spread the Sikhism to the rest of humanity, Films are one option. the films might be fictions but knowledge of our GURU’S WILL spread to the rest of the world much faster than what taught in Gurdwaras by our preachers, to which only majority of Punjabi attend.
I am fed up with Sikh’s BEING called Muslims, how many Sikh’s have been attacked and killed by whites since 9/11, how many Sikh’s children been bullied at school is this acceptable, I rather films made and knowledge spread.

  3. Vahiguroo Raj Jio, why not know Guru Nanak in meditation and Gurbani reminds the ignorant will always doubt regardless how we attempt to educate them with movies

  4. I have seen the trailer, first the title is inaccurate, secondly it says based on a story, its not a story it is fact.
this film is a step too far

  5. It is ironic that Guru Nanak taught people to rise above narrow-mindedness if Hinduism and today the organized Sikh religion is doing exactly that. The producer of this film has taken great pains to not let a human depict Guru Sahib. I have seen the film – when it was shown for a few days here in the US before being withdrawn in 2015. It’s an excellent film – a work of love and reverence and very true to to Guru Nanak Dev ji’s message.

Sikhs today have to decide: do you want to be like the Muslims – stuck in the 8th century, or do you want to move forward. Sikhism was always a forward-looking faith for heavens’ sake.

  6. As no public has actually watched this film, you can’t really comment on it until it have been released and if there is any false fiction it will be highlighted.
I am well aware of the Indian Government Involvements against the Sikh’s and other minorities.
Sikh’s history needs to be spread to the rest of world, not just to Punjabi’s people, we are held back by ourselves.
Well as for mata as i am not from India. THE Indian Government should not force anyone to stand up in movie theaters, Perhaps Punjabi Government should look into this and change it’s in PUNJAB.

  7. Movies never present truth it is always mixed up with fiction which most of the movie goers cannot differentiate and the false narrative is stuck which in turn does do more harm than good.Sikhs are supposed to spread the word thru our gurudwara’s .We have to train our preachers who have good hold of Gurbani and preach only from Guru Granth Sahib and not based on false karamats which are prohibited in our religion. As far freedom of expression is concerned it is not one way street, Here are some recent examples, Who was carrying out peaceful protest against beadbhi of Guru granth Sahib and who got killed,Who is responsible for interfering with peaceful protest of Gurbaksh Singh which lead to his death, What is happening to Bapu Surat Singh, What is happening to Jaggi, Have you ever read news in Indian media as soon as any sikh raises his or her voice he or she is labeled as terrorist or trouble maker. why the indian govt is forcing everyone to stand up in movie theaters to pay respect to their mata She can be mata to one community but not to everyone. Also please check how is your history being wiped out in history books in India.I can go on but this should be enough

  8. Second to that this reminds HOW THE INDIAN GOVERNMENT banned the film Toofan singh, I’ve watched that film, it’s a brilliant film, it shows how Sikh’s struggled and fought our suppressors.
Now how can Sikhs try to ban ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ that’s acting the same way as the Indian government.

  9. Banning this film goes against Sikhism, I would like to watch this film as it shows OUR HISTORY portraits our Guru’s and will be educate our children and the rest of the world.
Sikh’s need to spread messages of love and peace throughout the world therefore more films need to be made Our Guru,s came to this world to spread that message. Anyone trying to ban this film need not want to watch that their choice but they have no right to take mine away from me.
