Maharashtra Sikhs Hold 2nd Protest Seeking Jagdish Tytler’s Arrest For Instigating Sikh Massacres in 1984

MUMBAI, India—Earlier today, Sikh Sangat of Maharashtra held a protest while demanding immediate arrest of Jagdish Tytler. Protesters handed over a memorandum to the Commissioner of New Mumbai asking the Prime Minister of India to take immediate action against Tytler and other accused in killings of Sikhs during 1984.

The protest was held In front of the Belapur municipal corporation office in Navi Mumbai, jointly organized by the Maharashtra Sikh Association, Supreme Council of New Mumbai Gurdwara and United Sikh Association (Ulhas Nagar) and the Sikh sangats of Mumbai, New Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan, Ulhas Nagar, Dumbiwali and Khupoli.

Despite the efforts of the police to prevent the activists from carrying out their protest, Sikh Sangat held demonstration from 11 am to 2 pm. Local authorities tried to stop the protesters by dismantling their tent and removing chairs, however, due to large number of activists present at the protest site, the protest could not be halted.

President of the Maharashtra Sikh Association, Daljit Singh Bal and Chairman of the Gurdwara of Navi Mumbai, Jaspal Singh Sidhu said that there is no scope for suspicion during the sting operation of Jagdish Tytler, accused of November 1984 killing of Sikh Genocide. “So, Tytler should be arrested immediately. With the execution of the convicts of the massacre, justice will be given to the Sikh community.”

A large number of women also participated in the protest. This was the second protest in Maharashta, as earlier on February 16, another demonstration was held seeking Jagdish Tytler’s arrest in the Azad Maidan, Mumbai.

Mayor RD Sutar and Commissioner assured a delegation of Sikh leaders who were giving a memorandum that they would take personal interest to the President till this matter. On this occasion, besides President Daljit Singh Bal and Chairman S. Jaspal Singh Sidhu, besides Malkit Singh Bal, S. Gian Singh, Amrik Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Kabal Singh, Avtar Singh Dulath, Amrik Singh Sahan, Inderjit Singh Bal, Charandeep Singh Happy Singh, Dalbir Singh, Avtar Singh Sandhu, Amarpal Singh, Harbhajan Singh Sandhu, Hira Singh Padha, Bibi Davinder Kaur Khalsa, Jasmeet Singh, Rupinder Singh Kaler were present.
