SGPC Suspends Damdama Sahib Manager Who Mocked Gurbani

BARNALA, Punjab—On March 3, a shocking video of an SGPC appointed Manager of Gurdwara Baba Gandha Singh (Barnala) Shamsher Singh Chatha went viral over social media in which he could be heard addressing a dirty joke about Granthi (priest) while citing sacred verses of Rehras Sahib. Interestingly, other SGPC employees (probably priests) could also be seen giving a robust response to Manager Shamsher Singh Chatha by laughing loudly.

Manager Shamsher Singh Chatha was earlier appointed as an Additional Manager at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, Talwandi Sabo.

On being contacted by media, the SGPC President Gobind Singh Longowal said that Shamsher Singh Chatha has been suspended and a strict action will also be taken against him after further investigation. He told Sikh24 on March 4 that SGPC will not tolerate such behavior from its employees and strict action will be taken against anyone mocking Gurbani.

Earlier, taking a strong notice of this shameful incident, General Secretary of United Akali Dal Gurdeep Singh Bathinda had demanded Manager Shamsher Singh Chatha immediate suspension. He said the United Akali Dal and other Panthik organizations would struggle to upkeep respect for Gurbani at all costs.
