1995 Clock Tower Bomb Blast: Police Fails to Present Witnesses Against Jathedar Hawara

LUDHIANA, Punjab—In a case pertaining to bomb blast near Clock Tower of Ludhiana, statement of Sarbat Khalsa appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara was recorded by the Ludhiana Court on March 1. Due to absence of witnesses, the court couldn’t pursue proceedings and deferred next hearing of the case onto March 13.

It may be recalled here that initially the Police had registered an FIR against unidentified persons in this case dating back to 1995 but later name of Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara was included in this case. Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara was indicted under sections 307,427 of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) and sections 3 & 4 of the Arms Ammunition Act.

Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara is currently being confined in the Tihar Jail of India’s national capital New Delhi. He was sentenced with the death penalty by the trial court in assassination case of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh but later his death penalty was commuted to a life sentence.

Bhai Hawara’s legal counsel Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur is working to have him released on bail, whilst fighting to have him acquitted in a number allegedly trumped up cases registered against him.
