OTTAWA, Canada—Contrary to the large claims being made by the Indian mainstream media outlets, several Canadian media outlets have reported that the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will not meet the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh during his visit to Punjab. Captain Amarinder Singh’s record of maligning Canadian Cabinet Ministers is learnt to have acted as a driving force behind Trudeau’s stance.

“We have nothing planned with him at this time,” said one Canadian official, speaking anonymously to Canadian vernacular Times Colonist about Prime Minister Trudeau meeting Captain Amarinder. “Canadian officials are not allowed to discuss details of the trip publicly.”

It may be recalled here that Captain Amarinder Singh had last year refused to meet with Canadian Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan, accusing him of supporting the pro-Khalistani movement, which advocates for an independent Sikh state.

Earlier this month, Captain Amarinder Singh had also told Outlook India magazine that “there seems to be evidence that there are Khalistani sympathizers in Trudeau’s cabinet.”

If Trudeau avoids meeting with Captain Amarinder Singh then it will be a big embarrassment for him in his home turf. Earlier, Captain Amarinder Singh was barred from entering Canada when he was on election tour in North America.
