MOHALI, Punjab—A Mohali based Special Court of National Investigation Agency (NIA) headed by Justice Anshul Berry today gave 90 days extension to its probing team for filing chargesheet in three cases pertaining to murders of Hindu leaders in Punjab. Notably, the NIA had sought this extension from the court last week and the Court had reserved its decision after hearing arguments of prosecution and defence lawyers yesterday.

Sharing the development with media, the Defence counsel Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur informed that he strongly objected over the extension sought by the NIA; however, the court favoured probing NIA team’s demand.

Manjhpur further informed Sikh24 that tomorrow, the court will conduct hearing on NIA’s demand of shifting Scottish Sikh youth Jagtar Singh Johal, Bhai Hardeep Singh Shera, Bhai Ramandeep Singh and Bhai Taljit Singh to Tihar Jail, Delhi.

“Free Jaggi Now” posted the following message on Facebook –

The NIA wish to assert their authority by moving Jaggi and the other Singhs away from their lawyers and families. This tactic of relocating Sikh prisoners to jails outside of Punjab has been used repeatedly by the Indian state in order to subject families, prisoners, and their lawyers to further hardship by putting a drain on all their resources.
