AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Speaking with Sikh24 on January 23, SGPC President Gobind Singh Longowal said that the SGPC will approach the Indian President Ram Nath Kovind to appeal him to conclude Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana’s mercy petition at the earliest.

Earlier, Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana had appeal the SGPC to follow proceeding of mercy petition, as there was no progress in this regard ever since he was granted mercy.

In March2012, the SGPC had moved petition before the then Indian Prime Minister seeking commutation of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana’s death sentence to life imprisonment.

Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana had appealed the SGPC President Gobind Singh Longowal by writing an open letter to follow proceedings of his mercy petition. He had said that the SGPC had moved mercy petition without his consent observing sharp wrath among Sikh masses and now if it feels that it was a mistake then the SGPC was free to withdraw this petition.
