SGPC President Vows to End Caste Based Discrimination in Punjab’s Gurdwaras

SANGRUR, Punjab—Taking strong notice of the incident of caste based discrimination in a Gurdwara Sahib of village Manawala, SGPC President Gobind Singh Longowal paid visit to the victim family’s house on January 21. He expressed his grievances to the victim family over the incident and promised them of taking suitable action to bring the guilty persons to justice.

Longowal promised the victim family that he will appeal the Sri Akal Takht Sahib authorities to summon concerned Gurdwara Sahib authorities and take strict action against the guilty persons. He assured them that there was no room in Sikhi for caste based discrimination and the doors of Sikh shrines were open for all the races of humanity.

Interacting with media on this occasion, Longowal said that the rising trend of caste based discrimination has caused nourishment of cults in Punjab. “The SGPC is taking steps to put control over this trend in Sikh shrines and hopefully positive results of it will be observable in future” he added.

Meanwhile, Sikh24 has learnt that SGPC President Gobind Singh Longowal has constituted a probe committee to probe the entire incident. SGPC’s executive member Bhai Harinder Singh Rogla and Bhai Bhupinder Singh Bhalwan have been appointed in this investigation committee.  

It may be recalled here that an incident of not permitting a “reserved” caste family to culminate Sri Akhand Path Sahib in a Gurdwara Sahib of village Manawala had come to fore few days ago.
