Whether one is young or old, the craving and hunger of a self-centred person do not go away. -Guru Amar Das Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 649

Message: Whether young or old, unending cravings and desires of the mind are not quenched as long we are leading a greed-oriented selfish lifestyle. The hunger, rather, grows stronger and stronger each day.

Only by being Guru-oriented, by understanding and internalising the essence of the Guru’s wisdom, can we shed our greed and be contented. If we cultivate qualities like satisfaction and contentment within, the hunger for worldly riches and power remains under control or within limits.

We need to pay heed to the guidance in Gurbani and to surround ourselves with virtuous people who can help us to lead a well-balanced life and prevent us from falling into the trap of undue material craving.
