BREAKING: Political Sikh prisoner Bhai Harminder Singh Mintu begins hunger strike in Patiala Jail

PATIALA—Political Sikh prisoner Bhai Harminder Singh Mintu today initiated a hunger strike in Patiala jail in protest of depriving him from basic necessities by the jail authorities. He has accused the Superintendent Raj Kapur, Deputy Superintendent Gurcharan Singh Dhaliwal and Assistant Superintendent Prabhjot Singh for behaving in a biased manner towards him.

Interacting with media, Bhai Mintu’s legal counsel Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur informed that Bhai Harminder Singh Mintu is being kept in a dark cell from more than two months. He added that the Jail authorities were deliberately keeping Bhai Mintu deprived of sunlight in this extremely cold weather.

Advocate Manjhpur further informed that Bhai Harmninder Singh Mintu is a heart patient and it is proving quite difficult for him to survive in such torturing conditions. “The Patiala Jail authorities are also continuously denying taking Bhai Harminder Singh Mintu to PGI (Chandigarh) for medical checkup and treatment despite of numerous requests by him” he added.   

Meanwhile, it has also come to fore that the Superintendent of Patiala’s Central Jail is demanding a bribe of Rupees Two Lakhs to shift Bhai Harminder Singh Mintu to another cell with Sunlight.
