SGPC and Akali Dal Members Seek Religious Punishment for MP Sadhu Singh and MLA Sukhpal Khaira

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Various SGPC and Akali Dal members today gave a memorandum to the SGPC appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh seeking strict action against MP Sadhu Singh and MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira.

As per the complaint filed with Giani Gurbachan Singh, MP Sadhu Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party equated MLA Sukhpal Khaira with Guru Gobind Singh ji by referring to him as “Marg Agamara”, a title reserved for Guru Gobind Singh Ji. This comment was made by MP Sadhu Singh at Sri Fatehgarh Sahib during the Shaheedi Jor Mela last week.

The complaint was jointly lodged by SGPC and Akali Dal members include Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka, Harjap Singh Sultanwind, Mangwinder Singh Khapre Kheeri, Bhai Ajaib Singh Abhiyasi and Prof. Sarachand Singh.  The memorandum states that in the Sikh literature, history and tradition, the term “Mard Agamara’ has been used for Guru Gobind Singh ji, who sacrificed his entire family.

“After creating  of the Khalsa,  Guru Gobind Singh Ji received the Amrit from the Punj Piare.  Which is why Guru Gobind Singh Ji was given the title of Mard Agamara,” the memorandum states.

“Sadhu Singh MP, crossed all the boundaries when he called Sukhpal Singh Khaira Mard Agamara. MLA Sukhpal Khaira also did not deny this attempt to equalize him with Guru Gobind Singh Ji by MP Sadhu Singh.”

These leaders claimed that MP Sadhu Singh’s comments hurt the Sikhs entiments and  asked that both Aam Aadmi Leaders should be summoned at Sri Akal Takht Sahib and sentenced to the tradition of Sikh religion.

In early 2017, current Chief Minister of Punjab, MLA Navjot Sidhu had used the same term to address Capt. Aamarinder Singh at a rally in Bassi Pathana in January.  Similarly, in 2014, Akali Dal senior leader Bikram Majithia distorted a shabad of Guru Gobind Singh when he said “Nishchay Kar Arun Jaitley Ki Jit Karoon“.
