DERA BABA NANAK, Punjab—Martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh, Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh and Shaheed Bhai Kehar Singh will be observed at village Agwan (near Dera Baba Nanak) on January 6. Preparations have been begun to make the anniversary program memorable.
Speaking to Sikh24, Bhai Sarwan Singh Agwan (brother of Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh) informed that an Akhand Path Sahib will be laid by the Pathi Singhs of Damdami Taksal on January 4 which will be culminated on January 6. He further informed that the stage will be organized in an open tent under the patronage of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. “An Amrit Sanchaar program and a blood donation camp will also be organized on this eve,” he added.
It may be recalled here that the Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was shot dead by Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh and Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh on October 31, 1984 in New Delhi in avenge of armed invasion into central Sikh shrine Sri Harmandir Sahib.
Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh had attained martyrdom on spot while Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh & Shaheed Bhai Kehar Singh (who was accused of masterminding this assassination) were hanged on January 6, 1989.
This is another function which is the duty of the sikh organisations SGPC and DSGMC to carry out on national scale and not left to some dera. But again these organisations don’t give a damn about Sikhs they are supposed to represent.
