NEW DELHI—Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee has raised a demand with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to get statues of the 18th century Sikh generals, namely Baba Baghel Singh, Baba Jassa Singh Ahluwalia and Baba Jassa Singh Ramgarhia installed at the historical Lal Qila.

The Lal Qila, also known as the Red Fort is a historical building situated in India’s national capital New Delhi.  It was at one time conquered by the Sikh generals from the Mughal leaders.

Speaking with Skh24 about this development, the General Secretary of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that he hopes the Indian Government will take up his demand and install the statues in the coming days.  “We have personally written to the Indian Prime Minister and we hope to see positive outcome very soon,” Sirsa told Sikh24.

Sirsa informed Sikh24 that he has informed that the Prime Minister’s office has sought suggestion from the Union Ministers for Defense and Cultural Affairs in this concern. He added that consent of these duo Union ministries was necessary to take such an initiative. “With the erection of these statues, the next generations of Sikhs will easily get apprised of the historic victory of these Sikh generals over the Lal Qila,” he added.

  1. What a misplace sense of history . Instead of fighting for memorial to the victims of Sikh genocide in front of the parliament house where everyone should be reminded everyday how shamefully the majority acted, they want statues of Sikh generals. At the same time these so called leaders of Sikh religion look into the text books of history being rewritten and see how our history is being distorted ?
