AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Newly elected SGPC President Gobind Singh Longowal has said that he will order an unprejudiced probe into the recruitments and appointments made in the SGPC during previous years. Notably, the issue has been in limelight from sometime as the previous SGPC executive committee had made many controversial appointments.

Speaking with Sikh24 on December 5, Gobind Singh Longowal further said that the SGPC will prepare a solid plan to elevate Sikh youth from apostasy. He added that the rising trend of trimming hairs & beard among Sikh youth was very dangerous but the SGPC will make every possible effort to encourage the youths towards Sikhi.

On being questioned about the SGPC planning to curb sacrilege incidents in Punjab, Longowal said that the SGPC is deliberating to invent a solid strategy to put control over sacrilege incidents in Punjab.

Commenting on the parallel Takht Jathedars appointed by Sarbat Khalsa 2015, Longowal said that Sri Akal Takht Sahib was supreme and he will abide by the directions of SGPC appointed Takht Jathedars.

When asked about his private meeting with Giani Gurbachan Singh, Gobind Singh Longowal said that details will be shared soon, “but the meeting was very general as he needs to work closely with the Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar on many issues.”

Longowal further said that preaching Sikhi will be his priority and he will make every possible effort for it. “Entire Punjab area will be divided into zones and the Sikh leaders of corresponding zones will be assigned responsibility of preaching Sikhi,” he added.
